Daniel T. Bass, CFA, ASA
Dan Bass joined Performance Trust in 2012 to expand their reach in the investment banking arena, bringing over 27 years of industry experience.
Prior to joining Performance Trust, Dan was the Managing Director at FBR Capital Markets and Carson Medlin Investment Bankers, where he announced more Texas bank M&A deals from 2008 to 2010 than any other investment banker in the nation. Previously, Dan was the Senior Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions with Compass Bank, a $30 billion Sunbelt-based financial services company. Dan’s primary focus was to identify, negotiate, analyze and value potential acquisition candidates. Types of prospects included commercial banks and thrifts, insurance agencies, and investment advisory firms. Prior to joining Compass Bank, Dan had many years of consulting and regulatory experience and provided a wide range of services to the financial industry throughout the United States. His consulting career includes numerous profit improvement engagements and brokering several community banks ranging in asset size from $25 million to $6 billion. Dan has performed over 200 business valuations for a multitude of reasons, including tax and estate planning, employee stock ownership plans, private placements, buy/sell agreements, exchange ratio determinations, dissenters’ rights proceedings, reverse stock splits, and fairness opinions.
Dan has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Science degree in Information Management from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst and an Accredited Senior Appraiser in Business Valuations. Dan is frequently quoted in state and national banking publications and is a past speaker at numerous executive management seminars on financial institution acquisition topics.
Jonathan Briggs, CFA
Jonathan Briggs joined Performance Trust Capital Partners as a Managing Director in January 2015, bringing more than 17 years of investment banking experience working with community banks and thrifts in the Gulf South region. Mr. Briggs will head Performance Trust’s newly-formed New Orleans office. He comes to Performance Trust from Chaffe and Associates, Inc., a specialized investment banking firm based in New Orleans, where he served as Managing Director and head of the Financial Institutions Group.
During his career, Jon has advised on more than 30 M&A assignments, representing both buyers and sellers. In addition, he has completed more than 200 other engagements for community banks, including capital and debt raising, valuations for a variety of purposes and other advisory services related to regulatory and financial advice.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of New Orleans, where he currently serves as an adjunct professor of Bank Management. He is a CFA® charterholder, and holds the Series 7, 24, 79 and 63 registrations through FINRA.
Gary Penrose joined Performance Trust Investment Banking Group in 2015. Gary bringing over 30 years of community bank investment banking experience to Performance Trust advising various community financial institutions on mergers & acquisitions, capital planning and placement, and strategic issues.
Prior to joining Performance Trust, Gary headed Davenport & Company’s Financial Institutions Group. Prior to joining Davenport, Gary was Head of the Financial Institutions Investment Banking at Ryan Beck (now Stifel Nicolaus) and Managing Director of Scott & Stringfellow’s (now BB&T Capital Markets) Financial Institutions Group. Gary started his banking career at Bank of Virginia (Signet Bank) in Richmond Virginia where he was a member of Mergers & Acquisitions/Planning Department.
Gary received his MBA from the College of William & Mary and his Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University. Gary is a frequent speaker to various banking groups, banking trade associations, and bank regulatory agencies across the country and former instructor for SNL Financial’s Fundamentals of Bank Valuation.
M. Katherine Lynch
Ms. Lynch has been working with depository institutions for over 10 years. She focuses on serving bank and thrift clients in the Midwest, working primarily on community bank mergers and acquisitions. After completing her MBA at The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business, Ms. Lynch joined the management training program at National City Corp. in Cleveland, Ohio, where she was a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions/Strategic Planning department. After assisting with multiple large-scale bank acquisitions at National City, Ms. Lynch worked as an investment banker in New York City with both Deutsche Bank and Bear Stearns & Co. Ms. Lynch subsequently spent five years assisting private equity firms with community and regional bank investments. She is a graduate of John Carroll University and of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking.
Andrew Yang joins our Investment Banking Group with over seven years of investment banking experience, advising various depositories and other financial institutions on merger and acquisitions, capital management and strategic planning. Prior to joining Performance Trust, Andrew was a Vice President in the Financial Institutions Group of the Investment Banking Division at Credit Suisse, working in both New York City and Chicago. Andrew earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science & Engineering at Ohio State University and his MBA, with concentrations in Finance and Economics, from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
Mr. Patel has been working with depository institutions for over five years. He joined Performance Trust in January 2015, after spending three years in the financial institutions group at Raymond James. His primary areas of focus include assisting depository institutions with mergers and acquisitions, capital management, and strategic planning. In addition, he works alongside key professionals across Performance Trust’s business lines to more comprehensively serve the firm’s clients. Mr. Patel graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.
